There's no better way to spend a summer afternoon than at an aquarium! Join us for an adult and family-friendly trip to Norwalk, CT to explore the beautiful Maritime Aquarium, complete with a movie in their IMAX movie theater! The Maritime Aquarium prides itself on environmental education and inspires people of all ages to appreciate and protect the Long Island Sound ecosystem and global environment! They have a sea turtle nursery, a shark and ray touch pool, rescue seals, and many other animals and sea creatures that we will see throughout the afternoon.  We will meet at Union Station in New Haven around 11:45am to take a Metro North train leaving around 12:30pm to South Norwalk and arrive around 1:15pm. We will walk from the train station to the aquarium (about a 15 minute walk) and begin our afternoon with a 2pm IMAX screening of Great White Shark. The film lasts one hour and then you will have two hours to explore the aquarium at your own pace! You'll also have time to grab dinner in the area or pack a picnic and eat on the shoreline. We will meet back at the South Norwalk train station at 6:30pm to catch the train and arrive back in New Haven around 7:45pm. Detailed instructions will be sent to you closer to the date of the program after you're enrolled.  Note: Open to the Yale community. The fee covers your entrance fee to the aquarium and ticket to the IMAX screening of Great White Shark. THE FUTURE OF FILMMAKING: HOW WOMEN AND IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES ARE CHANGING THE GAME On June 27th and 28th, join from anywhere in the world to participate online in Future of Film Virtual Conference. Women in film are emerging from the sidelines, they bring new stories, new perspectives, new approaches. They are changing the status quo. At the same time immersive technologies like VR and AR are changing the way content is consumed. Viewers are hungry for more varied content. Learn how female filmmakers are changing the game, what are the newest trends in immersive storytelling and get inspired. Join us for two full days of talks and workshops on 27 - 28 June 2018 and hear directly from those moving the needle. The filmmaking universe is being reshuffled. Exciting times ahead! Let’s join forces and build a new reality where everybody’s voice counts! This online conference is meant to inform, connect and inspire. Everybody is welcome. CONFERENCE TRACKS Women Filmmakers: Front and Center With more female filmmakers, comes more variety in the types of stories that make it to the screen. What we see is a ripple effect - when there’s a female director, the film crew tends to diversify altogether. As a result we can expect an exponential rise in opportunities for people who haven’t got the chance to shine before. The future is bright and female! What are the barriers to getting equal access to funding and how to remove those? How to set up models for monetization? Do we need quotas for public funding? How to adapt to an ever-changing industry and still remain authentic? Immersive Tech: Shaping the New Way Stories are Told The advance of immersive technologies is changing the way we tell and perceive a story. Old rules of filmmaking don't apply and fresh approaches come to the front. Storytellers have the power to impact their audiences like never before. Virtual reality is promising to bring about the most disruptive changes since the invention of motion picture. With this new power come new responsibilities. Let's shape the future together! What are the ethical implications of emerging media? How does immersive tech influence the way we tell stories and reach audiences? Can we harness the power of virtual reality to achieve positive social impact? What are the new platforms for showing your VR creations? Find out more :  futureoffilm.virtualconference.com

Rodrigo Fischer, the director and performer, invites you to “The Other’s Shadow” at Green Kill on  Saturday, June 30 at 7 PM. Tickets are 10 dollars at the door or on Eventbrite.com.  Seating is limited to 45,   mix of chair and floor seating. “The Other’s Shadow” is  a multidisciplinary  project presenting a polyphonic and underground point of view of New York City. About “The Other’s Shadow” Inspired by Dostoyevsky’s novel Notes from the underground, The Other’s Shadow is a multidisciplinary and polyphonic project that spans performance, video-installation, visual art, site specific and time-based media to talk about objects, people, landscapes and architectures that are no longer useful socially or practically in New York City. What is valuable? What is useless? What is art? What is rubbish? What is reality and what is fiction? What is true and what is false? What is success and what is failure? The project aims to discuss ideas between these counterpoints. The creation has been developed by Rodrigo Fischer in New York City through a series of artistic residencies and postdoctoral research at NYU’s Performance Studies Department supervised by Andre Lepecki. Rodrigo Fischer is a Brazilian artist based in Brooklyn who develops hybrid research through the interface of film and theater, using new audiovisual, technologies and its appropriation to the stage. For the past seventeen years, he has been directing the Brazilian Group Grupo Desvio to develop performances, techniques and theatre experimentation with an emphasis on the actor craft, resulting in pieces like Short Existence, Eutro, Misanthrofreak and The Losers. He is currently doing a post-doctoral in Performance Studies at NYU to research the polyphonic correlation among images, objects and body in performance. An artistic incubator since 1986, Dixon Place is a non-profit institution committed to supporting the creative process by presenting original artistic works at all stages of development. Presenting over 1000 creator a year, this local haven inspires and encourages artists of all stripes and calling to take risks.
